Shetty Reacts after Nomination Withdrawal as Minister
The All Progressives Congress (APC) leader Maryam Shetty, a ministerial nominee from Kano State, has been removed from the list for an unknown reason.
Recall that after the initial batch of 28 nominations had been screened, President Bola Tinubu transmitted Shetty’s name together with 18 other cabinet nominees to the Senate for review and confirmation.
On Wednesday, her nomination drew conflicting responses from APC members on social media. Some questioned her experience, while others said Abdullahi Ganduje, the party’s national chairman, had favored her.
Prior to her Senate screening, Mariya Mahmoud, the former Commissioner for Higher Education in Kano, took over for Shetty on Friday.
The withdrawal of her name during senate plenary was obviously a surprise to Shetty. At the senate’s entrance, she and her supporters were informed that Mahmoud’s name had been substituted for hers.
However, The Cable claims that Shetty’s name was taken off the list of potential ministers due of her ardent support for the former vice president Yemi Osinbajo.
According to social media evidence, Shetty backed Osinbajo in his campaign for the APC presidential nomination and to succeed former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Shetty tweeted, shared, and published photos and videos from the Osinbajo presidential campaign.
She also shared the video of the former vice president declaring his intention to run for president on April 11, 2022, and embarking on consultations across the country.
