Amaechi failed Kalabari Kingdom as governor for 8 years, says Wike
Asari-Toru Local Government Area did not disappoint; it has always been a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. That was proven yet again on Monday, 6 February 2023 as the New Rivers Vision Consolidation Campaign trail berthed at the coastal city of Buguma for Rivers PDP state-level electioneering rally.
Addressing members and supporters of the party at the rally, the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP, Sir Siminalayi Fubara promised, among other things, to construct the 2nd phase of Trans-Kalabari Road when he comes on board as Governor of Rivers State.
The governorship candidate also pledged to ensure that the current peace in Asalga is sustained because no meaningful development can come to an area that is not secured and peaceful.
"We are really happy to be here today. From what we are seeing, it is very obvious that victory is sure in Asari-Toru Local Government Area.
"The Commissioner for Works was listing the wonderful works of Governor Wike's administration in Asari-Toru and the entire Kalabari Kingdom. This administration was able to achieve that much because of peace and security in this area. There cannot be any progress without peace.
"I want to assure you that I will sustain that peace, I will protect lives and properties here and bring more development to you.
"The 1st phase of the Trans-Kalabari Road has been completed by this administration and ready for commissioning. Rest assured that I will not only flag off the 2nd phase, I will complete it, the 2nd phase of this project must be a reality when we come on board.
"Asari-Toru people and the Dapaye-Amachree Polo have a lineage, so when I say I am one of you, I know exactly what I am saying. Your support for me is also a support for yourself," he said.
Sir Siminalayi Fubara urged the people of Asari-Toru Local Government Area to be actively involved in the forthcoming elections by ensuring that their permanent voter card, PVC is intact.
"I thank you all and please ensure that your PVC is intact, you should all come out on the two election days to vote and defend your vote. I can sleep with my two eyes closed because I know we will win here," the guber candidate added.
In his remarks, Rivers State Governor, His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike said he has fulfilled his electioneering promises to Kalabari people.
"In 2014 I came here to campaign and I told you that if you support me, I will do some certain things for you as a people. One of the things I did to thank you for your support was to start and finish the 1st phase of the Trans-Kalabari Road.
"You will all agree with me that this road is very important because it links up other communities to those who are in the mainland.
"In politics, the electorate must ensure that those who come to talk to them will not just come and talk but implement the things they said. I made promises to you and I fulfilled them.
"Nobody can say I have not worked in Kalabari Kingdom. The school projects, hospitals, roads and land reclamation projects in Kalabari Kingdom are all there for verification.
The government of Rotimi Amaechi in this state promised you heaven on earth but ended up doing nothing for you from 2007 to 2015," the Governor stated.
On her part, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for Rivers West Senatorial District, Her Excellency Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo urged members of the party in Asalga to embark on door-to-door mobilisation and sensitisation in their various units.
"Let me first of all thank my good people of Asari-Toru Local Government Area for this massive turnout today. Thank you so much for showing love to our great party. Let me also thank leaders of our party in the state for finding us worthy to represent our people.
"I want to encourage our people to be actively involved in this voting process. Go to your various units to sensitise them to keep their PVCs intact and be ready to vote Sir Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu for governor and deputy governor. Tell them to also vote candidates of our party in the national assembly and state assembly elections," she added.
In his solidarity speech, the Honourable Commissioner for Works in Rivers State, Dr. Dax George-Kelly said the people of Kalabari are indebted to Governor Wike for his good works in the kingdom, and the only way they can pay him back is to massively vote Sir Siminalayi Fubara for governor.
"Asalga is PDP and PDP is Asalga. Your Excellency you have done exceedingly well for us as a people. The Trans-Kalabari Road connected six Kalabari communities to the mainland.
"My dear Kalabari people, we must not forget history, since the creation of the Kalabari Ethnic Nationality, only twelve communities have been connected to the mainland, the yearnings of our people have always been to connect more communities to the mainland.
"Governor Nyesom Wike alone has connected six communities to the mainland through the Trans-Kalabari Road project. So we now have eighteen communities connected to the mainland. Governor Wike has written his name in gold.
"The only way we can tell him thank you is not by lip service but for all 251 units of Asari-Toru Local Government Area to come out en masse to give nothing less than 95 percent of our voting strength to Sir Siminalayi Fubara," he added.
Presenting the flags to the two candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party for the state assembly in Asalga, the state chairman of the party, Amb. Desmond Akawor said Governor Wike has rewarded loyalty and commitment in Asari-Toru Local Government Area.
"The presentation of flags in this local government area is unique in the sense that Governor Wike has proven his detractors wrong. All the sons and daughters of this area who are loyal have been retained, that is reward for loyalty," he said.
The Director-General of the New Rivers Vision Consolidation Campaign Council, Bro Felix Obuah said Governor Wike has been good to Kalabari people and Ijaws in Rivers State. The campaign DG stated this while inviting the gubernatorial candidate to the podium.
"Kalabari people, you asked for a ring road, Governor Wike gave you, you demanded for schools and hospitals, Governor Wike gave you, you asked for Trans-Kalabari Road, he gave you, the Ijaw nation demanded for governor, His Excellency graciously gave it to you," he added.
